Tokyo Skytree Turns One

One year ago today, the Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) officially opened to the public. Standing 634 meters (2,080 feet), the Skytree is the tallest tower and the second largest structure in the world. The Skytree took four years to build and in the last year alone over 6.3 million people visited the tower—many capturing the experience on Instagram.

Congratulations to masters student Rob Avery-Phipps who completed the Great Wall Marathon near Beijing in a brilliant 5 hours, 30 minutes and 22 seconds.

Rob, who has raised almost 1000 pounds for End Polio Now, said: “It was only when I got back to my hostel in Beijing that it really kicked and I realised what an absolute honour it was to have had the opportunity to run on the Great Wall!

“I’m so pleased that I ‘naively’ signed up to this race nine months ago. It goes to show that if you put your mind to it any challenge can be achieved no matter how big or small.”
